Kuressaare, Saaremaa Live Cam

The main square of Kuressaare, the town at the centre of Saaremaa island in western Estonia, lies across this view. A white gabled house stands on the left, the spire of the Lutheran church rises behind the roofs, and cars cross the paving below the lens.

The square is the meeting point of the town: market stalls, concerts and midsummer events are held on it, and the streets running off it carry the shops and cafés. Kuressaare Castle stands a few minutes' walk south, a square keep with a moat that is among the best preserved medieval castles in the Baltic region.

The island empties out after the summer, and in the colder months the square is mostly local traffic and people crossing between the shops. The overlay is that of the Saaremaa newspaper that runs the camera.
