Aargau, Switzerland

Aargau is a canton in northern Switzerland, separated from Germany by the Rhine; its capital is Aarau and, with more than 730,000 residents, it is the fourth most populous canton. Near Brugg the Reuss and the Limmat flow into the Aare, which joins the Rhine shortly afterwards. Nearby are Habsburg Castle, the ancestral seat of the Habsburg dynasty, and the remains of the Roman legionary camp of Vindonissa. The canton is also known for the castles of Lenzburg and Hallwyl and for the thermal springs of Baden, used since Roman times.
