Prince Edward Island, Canada

Prince Edward Island is an eastern province of Canada, within the geographical region of the Maritimes. This province is composed of the island of the same name and numerous other smaller islands. It is situated in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, north of Nova Scotia Peninsula, east of New Brunswick and west of Cape Breton Island. The landscapes of Prince Edward Island are mainly rural with only two major cities - the capital Charlottetown and Summerside, on the southern shores of the island. This province is known for its red soil, rolling hills and outstanding reddish sand beaches. Also in the coast, there are sandstone cliffs, dunes, and numerous bays. The vibrant city of Charlottetown is around Charlottetown harbour, at the confluence of three rivers. In Charlottetown, you will find Victoria-era buildings, delightful shopping areas such as Victoria Row, galleries, and in the waterfront, the Victoria Park, ideal for outdoor activities and leisure. In this city stands the Province House National Historic Site, which is known as the Birthplace of the Canadian Confederation, as a result of Charlottetown Conference in September 1864. Since 1997, Prince Edward Island is linked to the mainland of New Brunswick through Confederation Bridge, also called the “Fixed Link” by Prince Edward Islanders.Population: estimated 153 thousand inhabitantsCapital: CharlottetownOther major cities: Summerside Main attractions: beaches, Province House (National Historic Site of Canada), Confederation Centre of the Arts, Gothic Revival St. Dunstan’s Basilica, Point Prim Lighthouse, Victoria Park, Confederation Bridge, Prince Edward Island National Park, Red Point Provincial Park, Anne of Green Gables Museum at Silver Bush, Haunted MansionNearest Airports: Charlottetown Airport (YYG)
