Dalarna is a historical province and county in central Sweden, bordering Norway in the west, with Falun as its administrative centre. Lake Siljan lies on the edge of the Siljan Ring, the largest known meteorite impact structure in Europe, formed about 377 million years ago. The great copper mine at Falun, worked for about a thousand years until 1992, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dalarna is also known for its midsummer celebrations, the carved and painted Dala horse and the Vasaloppet ski race from Sälen to Mora.
