Province of Cuenca, Spain

The Province of Cuenca lies in the east of Castilla–La Mancha in central Spain, with about 200,000 residents and the city of Cuenca as its capital. The walled old town of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands on a narrow rocky ridge between the gorges of the Júcar and Huécar rivers and is known for its hanging houses, whose balconies jut out over the cliff. In the mountains to the northeast lies the Ciudad Encantada, or Enchanted City, where weather and water have shaped the limestone into strange forms. To the southwest the province opens onto the plains of La Mancha.
