Caraș-Severin County, Romania
Caraș-Severin is a county in western Romania, on the border with Serbia. Caraș-Severin is part of the Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisza Euroregion, with most of the territory within the historical region of Banat. Reșița, the capital city, is on the river Bârzava, amidst picturesque landscapes. There are a few interesting museums in the city such as Museum of Banat Highlands (Muzeul Banatului Montan) and the Steam Engines Museum (Muzeul Locomotivelor cu Abur). The county is known for important archaeological sites – in 2002, near the town of Anina, the oldest early modern human remains in Europe were discovered. The site of the discovery is within the “Cave with Bones” (Pestera cu Oase), which can be visited. The spa town of Băile Herculane is famed for its hot springs and it is linked to the legend of Hercules, who once stayed in the town to bathe and rest.Population: over 270 thousand inhabitantsCapital: ReșițaOther places: Anina, Bocșa, Băile Herculane, Moldova Nouă, Oravița, Oțelu RoșuMain attractions: Nera Gorge-Beușnița National Park, Domogled-Valea Cernei National Park, Iron Gates (gorge), Semenic ski resort, Izvorul Bigăr (protected area), Bigar Cascade Falls, Cave with Bones (Peștera cu Oase), 7 Springs thermal resort Herculane, CFR Museum - Steam Locomotives MuseumNearest major airports: Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP - Aeroportul Internațional Henri Coandă București)
