One of the oldest cities in Hungary is Veszprém, which is also the name of the county. With over 60 thousand residents and approximately 110 km from the capital, Budapest, this was one of the first cities in the country to have a university. It is often known as "the city of queens", since many Hungarian queens were crowned by the bishop of Veszprém. Some of the most visited places are the Episcopal Palace, the Castle Gate, Benedict Hill Cross, the Country Hall and the Fire-watch Tower. There is also a ski resort in the Eplény village.
