Volgograd Oblast (Волгогра́дская о́бласть) is a federal subject (oblast), in the Lower Volga region, Southern Russia.Volgograd Oblast’s geographical position amongst waterways has made it not only an important shipping route, but also a centre for hydroelectricity generation. In fact, this Russian division is extremely resourceful in terms of water, with numerous rivers and streams, with Volga River being the largest. The oblast’s territory is mainly rural, apart from the industries on the Volga and the Don Rivers.Volgograd Oblast is mostly known for being the main site of the Battle of Stalingrad, which occurred in World War II, with the capital, Volgograd, at the centre of this battle.
